Signed by the author (and teenage indifference)
Yesterday, I signed 400 copies of my debut novel Someone Else's Child for Booktopia books. It was a surreal moment unpacking all those beautiful books and thinking that I had finally done it.
After seven years of writing, editing, rewriting, failing, writing again, dealing with rejections, getting through a pandemic (which I believe we are still in!) then securing an agent and a book deal, the physical book with my name on it was here.
As to be expected, life didn't make it all smooth sailing. I had two kids home with the flu, a case of head lice to deal with and a busted heater as Melbourne's winter took hold. The teenagers threw a cursory glance at the dining table covered in books, grunted, raised an eyebrow and moved to the bench to eat their 15th snack of the day. Nothing like keeping you grounded.
Anyway, it was a nice moment. And if you happened to be one of the lovely people who pre-ordered my book via Booktopia, you may be the lucky one to receive the last signed copy with a special note in it.
Thanks to everyone for their support thus far. This book bird officially flies onto shelves on 1st June, 2022.
