Longlisted in Mslexia Novel Competition!
Last year, I entered my manuscript The Fundraiser into the Mslexia Adult Novel Competition.
Mslexia is a UK magazine for women writers.
“Mslexia” means women’s writing (ms= woman, lexia=words).
It was founded by Debbie Taylor who previously edited New Internationalist and Writing Women magazines.
This competition only runs every second year and is open to women of any nationality from any country! Now that’s steep competition.
I was ecstatic to find out my novel had been longlisted (top 10%) and chosen from over 1000 entries!
Although I didn’t make the shortlist, every one of these steps gets me closer to finding a home for my story.
And in the current global pandemic, with the world in a spin, stories are everything. They keep us connected. We are experiencing something we have never seen before with job losses and industries shrinking across the board.
The only certainty is uncertainty itself.
What I hope is that people pick up books while in lockdown. They remember the joy of reading and take the time to escape to different worlds. If you can, choose a local author so you know your money is supporting someone in your country.
Wouldn’t it be great if each one of us that can buy a book, does buy a book, and that in turn supports the arts and all the people the industry employs? It’s not just authors who are impacted but booksellers, publishers, editors, agents, designers, libraries, festival staff and so on.
